For the love of Holiday Garlands!
The holiday hustle is in full swing! For years and years starting at Thanksgiving straight through to Christmas, the holidays have been a blur for us. A glittery pastel blur, made up of early mornings and late late nights, awful Hallmark channel Christmas movies, podcasts, junk food, and mountains of tissue paper and shipping boxes. Oh and I can't forget really bored chihuahuas!
As artists/makers that specialize in holiday designs we barely find time to actually stop and "feel" the holiday ourselves. We are locked in the studio the entire season making and shipping off holiday cheer to other people, which is a thrill in itself. It might sound corny but we sorta feel like holiday cheer ambassadors. But we vowed that this year things would be different as far as relaxing a little and doing some of the things that non-maker people do. So far it's not majorly different, we're working seven days a week...but it's only Dec 6. We are staying optimistic that we'll pull off at least a day or two out of the studio.
Decorating for the holidays is one of our favorite things! It's usually done bit by bit by bit over a week. While orders are drying in the studio, or we break for lunch, or take the pups out to do their business... we'll add another bottle brush tree here or a garland there.
Well this past weekend, we brought all the boxes down to the living room so that they'd be there for us to pick through this week. The first thing I grabbed was my box of garlands! This big ol' pile of FUN you see above! We are huge fans of garlands over here! Not just for Christmas... but all year round! They are such an easy way to add a bit of happiness and fun to an area or vignette!
This garland is one of our oldest and such a favorite! It's probably from the late 40s early 50s and was made in Japan! They are hard to find and always so expensive! But if you want to know what to search on eBay or etsy or what to ask for at an antique shop... It's a honeycomb ball garland!
This here is actually a reproduction and a really good one! It's the prettiest raspberry pink! Made of glass and kinda heavy!
Another repro, but it has such a great tarnished silver look! And would you believe that the balls are plastic? We found it at the Country Living fair years ago.
Ahhhh how good is this?! It's vintage! We found it years ago and have used it in numerous projects over the years so we only have a tiny bit left. It's the prettiest pink!
This! It's blow mold popcorn!! Can you handle it? Aaron says it looks like a bunch of yellow molars. eww. He's kinda right. It's great.. hilarious and great! We are suckers for anything blow mold!
Isn't this sooo pretty?! Little foil wrapped gifts! We are big fans of pastel colored foil decorations! Especially Easter egg candy containers!
We bought this a few years ago to hang across our table at a holiday pop up and even though it's just simple cardboard glitter circles... it's one of our faves!
More reproductions! And really good ones! We like them on their spools as is!
This here is super old! We have a few boxes of it. It's really delicate and actually tarnishes!
Ok, Can you even handle this little set!? In it's original box?! So so sweet! Can we please just go back in time and scoop all of these up at the five and dimes? Geez!
This is the second or third year in a row that this tiny shelf in the kitchen was the first spot to get a little Holiday cheer. Oh and if you don't follow us on Instagram you may not know that over the past year or so we became incredibly obsessed with Squirrels. We've actually become grandparents. Our daughter "Hopper" is now a mom. Those stories are for another day. Back to Christmas garlands...
We love clustering garlands across our mantel.
And sometimes a garland just laying on a table top is all you need to finish a little vignette!
Sir Kyle is ready for the Holidays.... looks like we caught him mid dance move here.
And we can't forget our paper mache bunny collection in the dining room! They get into the Holiday spirit too!
We have a suuuuper old cabinet in our kitchen that holds lots of favorite bits. Everyday is definitely a Holiday on those shelves!
Hope you guys liked this little peek at our favorite garlands and how we use them in our holiday decor. We are working like lunatics on holiday orders over here... but we'll be chipping away at the tree this weekend! Can't wait to show you!
Do you collect garlands? Leave a comment and tell us about them!
Happy to be back!
